The Santa Clarita Valley Bar Association recognizes the importance of being a partner with our local community – serving those who are less fortunate or those with special needs. In both cases, the Bar Association desires to be part of the “solution.”
To that end, the Bar Membership is going to be involved with the following events for the 2020 calendar year:
April 16, 2020 at 6:00 PM
At this 8th Annual bar sponsored event, local high school students will present a speech. A panel of five Judges from the Los Angeles Superior Court will score the competition. The top three students will receive cash scholarships.
If you would like to become a sponsor of this event, please contact Sarah at 661-505-8670 or email@example.com. Sponsorship opportunities can be viewed here.
Jan.- May, Aug. – Nov. (last Thursday of each month)
In operation for over 20 years, Teen Court is a diversion-based program for local youths (junior high thru high school) who have committed low level criminal offenses. The program is designed to allow the offending minor a “second chance” via a probation period involving community service, and other relevant obligations. If the minor successfully completes the program, his/her case is dismissed! The minors in the program are screened by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Department. Bar members who participate are encouraged to engage the members of the minor’s “jury” in a meaningful discussion in deciding the appropriate penalties for each case heard by the Teen Court. Each session runs approximately two hours (3:15pm – 5:15pm) and is held on the last Thursday of each month. We encourage all Bar members to volunteer their time for a worthy cause.
April 3, 2020 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM
Co-hosted with the Santa Clarita Valley Business Group and UCLA Health, the Bar membership will donate blood that will provide greatly needed resources for our local hospitals. The blood drive will take place at The Oaks Club, 26550 Heritage View Lane, Valencia, CA.
The Santa Clarita Valley Bar Association has partnered with College of the Canyons Classified Senate for PROJECT: BACKPACK. 1 in 5 students enrolled in Community College in Los Angeles County are homeless. Project: Backpack is a philanthropy effort started by COC’s Classified Senate to ensure that students facing financial difficulty, food source or housing insecurity can, at the very least, be afforded the supplies to engage in their studies. Last year, we collected enough backpacks and supplies to fill over 20 backpacks.

At this time of the year, many local charitable groups have difficulty providing toys and new clothing items to the young boys and girls of the Santa Clarita Valley. To help offset the shortages the groups often face, the Bar membership will host a toy/clothing drive at its annual Installation Dinner and distribute these items to the various local charities. If you would like to donate but will not be able to attend the Installation Dinner, contact Sarah at (661) 505-8670 or firstname.lastname@example.org to coordinate a drop-off.
For any questions or comments related to the Bar Association’s Community Outreach Program, please feel free to contact Committee Chair and Board Member, Jeff Armendariz, 661.312.5380 or by email: email@example.com. Thank you for your interest and support!
