DESCRIPTION:Join the Santa Clarita Valley Bar Association for the 2nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament\, benefitting the non-profit WISH Education Foundation\, a group dedicated to quality public education for all students. Through the generosity of the caring community and corporate partners\, WISH funds programs and initiatives that go beyond what tax dollars provide and help elevate and prepare our students for life. WISH Education Foundation does a lot of tremendous work on behalf of students here in the William S. Hart School District.  They have created wellness centers on school campuses\, provided computers and study desks to students during the COVID crisis\, and have generally stepped in to sponsor student-related projects that the District is unable to afford.   \nYour support and participation will also enable the Bar Association to continue its efforts as a “caring partner” in the SCV through this and other community outreach events sponsored annually by the Bar Association (Blood Drive\, Toy Drive\, High School Speech Competition).   \nClick here to register as a golfer or to become a sponsor.

DESCRIPTION:Join us at the USS Iowa for a private special guided tour! \nI hope you can make time to join us for Family & Friends Day aboard the famous museum battleship\, U.S.S. Iowa (BB61)!  The Iowa is berthed along the San Pedro Waterfront (next to the cruise ship berthing spaces). \nDuring your visit to the historical ship\, you will be taken on a private guided tour of the various decks\, including the Captain’s Cabin\, the conning/navigation bridge\, the engineering spaces along “Broadway”\, the officer’s and enlisted sailor’s berthing & mess areas\, and of course\, up front and personal with the ship’s main armament\, the massive 16″ guns! \nYours truly has been a volunteer tour guide over the last ten years\, and I promise that it will be an amazing experience to walk along the decks shared by thousands of sailors who have served aboard the Iowa (she was commissioned during World War II and served through the Cold War).  Now permanently berthed in San Pedro\, the Iowa serves as a tribute to all those veterans who have served and those currently on active duty. \nI hope you will consider joining us for this unique opportunity\, and you are encouraged to bring your family (children\, too) and friends!  Our group is offered a discounted admission of $20 per person (children 3-11\, $15)\, including the private tours.  The tours will last approximately 2 1/2 hours (restrooms are located aboard the Iowa).  For anyone who may need assistance\, an elevator is available between several decks.  After your tour\, you are welcomed to relax on the fantail with a cool breeze\, great food and drink from Vicky’s Doghouse (on board the ship) and enjoy wonderful views of the Port of Los Angeles. \nIf you can make it\, please RSVP at your soonest convenience\, as this will enable us to have the proper number of tour guides available.  Thank you and I hope to see you aboard! \nSincerely\, \nJeff Armendariz \nPresident\, SCV Bar Association

Hart Union School District \nPROMPT: IF YOU COULD TRAVEL BACK IN UNITED STATES HISTORY TO PERSONALLY WITNESS AN EVENT OR SERIES OF EVENTS\, LEADING TO THE ENACTMENT OF NATIONAL LEGISLATION\, WHAT EVENT(S) WOULD THAT BE\, AND WHY IS THIS LEGISLATION MEANINGFUL TO YOU? \nAll interested senior class students should contact Sarah Hunt\, Executive Assistant at the SCV Bar Association for sign-up instructions\, forms\, and questions (see below for contact information). \nThe overall scoring of the competition will be comprised of both the submitted essay and speech presentation. Speeches will be a maximum of 4 minutes in length. The oral competition will be hosted via ZOOM on Thursday\, April 29\, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. No props. A scoring rubric will be provided to participating students for their review. \nStudents selected to participate in the oral competition will be notified by telephone and/or email on or before April 22\, 2021. A maximum of 15 students from the William S. Hart District high schools will be selected. \nThe scoring panel will be comprised of the Santa Clarita Valley Bar Association’s Executive Board. Business attire is suggested. All students who are selected to present at the oral \ncompetition will receive printed recognition of their achievement.
